Lots of work and expense to achieve conformity with comprehensive traceability for EB2678 that is flowed down to Suppliers that provide Level 1 materials for NAVSUP/NAVICP/DLA/BPMI, etc.
Really nice thing about this traceability kit – it can be used for a generic traceability program when you delete content in the work instruction that requires testing to confirm chemical and physical material properties.

The download includes two versions of the Traceability Work Instruction:
- Applies only to Appendix A in EB Spec 2678 (less forging, additive manufacturing, F/F…)
- Enables conformity with EB Spec 2678 (includes additive manufacturing, forging, training, audits…)

The fully conforming work instruction adds a couple pages for training, auditing and over-checks for fraud and falsification (F/F) awareness in the facility and at origin/subtier Suppliers. It also adds provisions for a full range of subjects for Information Requests, and marking/retention of samples from forging and additive manufacturing, and more…
There’s also a link to download an F/F poster that needs to be hung in multiple locations, at least one for every 50 Employees, and contact information to enable freedom to report F/F issues.
There’s a lot of effort and cost to provide Level 1 items according to comprehensive traceability for EB2678, including:
- Marking method and content, especially after heat treatment, forging, or additive manufacturing
- Marking of the original item and each item cut from the original
- Customer approvals for a range of subjects
- Supplier on-site audits
- Storage and in-process segregation
- Issue control
- Retention, and delivery of Official Records
- Chemical and physical analyses of material properties upon receipt, and repeat of those analyses each time properties are altered until the final configuration
